Kirk Simmons

Kirk has recently joined the team at Scandia bringing with him a broad breadth and depth of professional experience with financial practices, financing, legal, and business models in various industries in both the public and private sector obtained during his 30-year career as a licensed CPA.  After graduating from the University of Utah with a BS in accounting Kirk joined KPMG, LLP’s assurance practice where he engaged in auditing public and private companies.  During his 14 year tenure he participated in assisting his clients with initial public offerings, private placement instruments, debt offerings and covenant compliance, project management for large ERP system installations, auditing of governmental entities including single audits of various HUD programs (CDBG funds).  He was also a member of the firms internal and external quality peer review program team.  Kirk then joined one of his audit clients in the media industry as the Chief Financial Officer where he oversaw all financial related matters along with risk management, legal affairs, and IT for the entity for 16 years.  In this role he was tasked with all FP&A activities including budgeting and forecasting, acquisition target identification and due diligence on the buy side and due diligence response on the sell side.  Kirk assisted the CEO in overall company strategy by identifying and modeling organic growth and leveraging pivot opportunities resulting in unprecedented revenue growth from $100 million to $175 million in revenue over a five-year period in an otherwise mature industry.   Kirk worked with the entity partners in developing a dissolution plan and then timely executed various transactions in order to achieve the dissolution objectives, including annuitizing the entity’s pension plan in accordance with ERISA.  Ultimately, Kirk was able to navigate a variety of wind-down issues such that asset distribution was maximized by minimizing reserves for contingent liabilities.
